DSW will charge €173.25 a month for its basic health insurance in 2027, €14.75 more than this year. The insurer announced the price in a news item on dsw.nl on 21 October and calls it the biggest premium increase in its history. DSW is the first Dutch insurer to publish a 2027 premium; the others have until 12 November.
The increase is larger than the Ministry of Health expected. In its budget the government estimated an average rise of €12.50 a month, to about €169. DSW gives several reasons: growing demand for care, higher wages and other costs in healthcare, and a one-off effect. The premium stayed flat this year because of a surplus in the national health insurance fund, so the cost increase of 2026 and 2027 now lands in one year. DSW says it uses €25 million from its reserves to soften the rise.
Two things do not go up. DSW keeps its supplementary insurance premiums the same in 2027. And while the compulsory deductible (eigen risico) rises to €400 next year, DSW lowers it by €10 for its own customers, to €390.
What does this mean for you?
If you are insured with DSW, your basic cover costs €2,079 a year in 2027, against €1,902 now: €177 more. DSW has one basic policy and one price for everyone, so there is no discount to look for there.
If you are with another insurer, this is a signal, not your new price. Premiums for 2027 are still unknown for most insurers, and they can land above or below DSW. Keep in mind that your zorgtoeslag (healthcare allowance) does not depend on which policy you choose, so any saving from switching stays with you.
